book review 1

Book Review: A child called ‘It’

This story was about a boy who was always being abused by his drunken mother. She had made him drink a chemical and how he always had to sleep in the garage and do all the household tasks. Also, he had to finish them within a certain time or else he would be deprived of food. His brothers were not treated as badly. In fact, the total opposite. The mother doted on them. Everyday when he went to school, he would be sent the nurses’ office to be checked for all the bruises and scars. His teacher had profusely asked him about them and if he had been abused. But, he had always denied it to protect his mother. Until one day, he could not take it anymore and he told the truth to his teacher and the teacher rescued him from his family. But, in the end, dave, the author, did not hold any grudges at all. He actually managed to become a relatively successful man and he spoke to audiences about his life.

I admire Dave very much as he was strong enough to forgive his mother for putting him through so much pain and torture. He also had the spirit to keep on living although he felt like dying at times. Also, it was such a miracle that he had managed to survive throughout the torture and the suffering.

Overall, I enjoyed this book very much and it touched me and yet made me feel sympathetic towards the author.
